Manhyia (B/A), May 1, GNA – The construction of a GH¢ 1.2 million drainage facility at Manhyia in the Goaso Municipality has brought relief to residents.
The Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing awarded the project to Eugo Terrano Limited, a Tema-based construction firm, in November 2011, and it is expected to be completed within six months.
Madam Eunice Ijeoma Aku Ogbugo, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Eugo Terrano and Mr. Daniel Gyakye, Project Manager, conducted newsmen round the project site on Monday.
Work on the storm drain, the main project, including two minor ones (U-drain and pipe drain), which stretch two metres wide and 1.5 metres deep, was seen to be on course.
“A heavy downpour that hit the municipality in the major rainy season last year flooded our homes and left behind huge debris,” Maame Dora Asantewaa, a resident said.
Madam Ogbugo said the company intended to construct a lorry park and a market free of charge in addition to the project as its social responsibility.
She expressed appreciation to residents for their cooperation, which she said had paved the way for the smooth execution of the project and gave the assurance that the drains would be completed on schedule.
Alhaji Mohammed Doku, Municipal Chief Executive, said it was the responsibility of the residents to monitor the project to check shoddy work.
Nana Akwasi Bosompra, Omanhene of Goaso, pledge the support of the traditional council to the municipal assembly to facilitate the development of the municipality.
He cautioned contractors executing projects in the area against shoddy works, since the traditional council would not hesitate to recommend the termination of contracts that were not done up to the expected standard.
Nana Akwasi Bosompra commended Eugo Terrano for the quality of work done so far.
He expressed concern about the deplorable nature of the Tepa-Goaso road and appealed to the government to rehabilitate it.
The Chief said the Midwifery Training School in Goaso was expected to admit 100 fresh students this year but accommodation was a major challenge.
He said the traditional council had released four acres of land to the school and appealed to the government to use the land to provide accommodation for both teachers and students.
The chief also expressed worry that works on the construction of the two-storey police accommodation in the area, which had reached roofing level, had come to a standstill because of lack of funds.
