Accra, Nov 30, GNA –The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development would be organizing a three-day National Environmental Sanitation Conference (NESCON) from the December 6 to 9 to discuss environmental issues.
It will be on the theme “Enhancing public private partnership for effective environmental sanitation services – the role of stakeholders”.
A statement to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday in Accra stated that the conference would discuss issues of national level strategies for the implementation of the Revised National Environment Sanitation Policy 2010, the National Environmental Sanitation Strategy and Action Plan (NESSAP) and the related strategic Environmental Sanitation Investment Plan (SESIP).
It said the conference would also serve as a platform to share ideas and lessons on the best practices and interventions being carried out by some Metropolitan, Municipal District Assemblies (MMDA’s), private sector institutions and provide a platform to consider emerging issues from the 1st high level meeting on Ghana’s Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) compact.
The conference would discuss important issues of performance measurement for the sector on how to bridge possible gaps in information management, and a high level political platform for the sustenance of Government of Ghana’s focus on sector issues including the setting up of a national environmental sanitation investment management board.
According to the statement, major stakeholders made up of the Ministries, MMDA’s , development partners, NGO’s, development partners and the National Health Insurance Scheme would provide their perspective on the importance of improving environmental sanitation services during the conference.
It said quiz competitions among schools, discussions on various key players in the environmental sanitation sector and exhibitions would also be held as side attractions during the conference
