The Reach project partners have been working with the Asutifi North District and national stakeholders to co-develop an ‘Empowerment in WASH index (EWI),’ as a tool to measure empowerment in the WASH sector capturing multiple dimensions of empowerment. The process entailed working with stakeholders to develop indicators to better understand the relationship between empowerment and WASH-related outcomes; provide a tool to assess and monitor gender issues related to WASH programmes and services; and provide data and research to contribute to informing policy-making related to achieving household water security in an equitable/gender-balanced way. NLLAP 72 hosted the consultation process on the development of the Empowerment in WASH Index.
The objective of this learning session is to, i) share knowledge and outcomes of the EWI tool development; ii) Discuss the findings from the pilot applications of the tool; iii) obtain feedback on how practitioners and government agencies can apply the tool in developing and assessing interventions; lessons and limitations of the tool and areas for future revision and refinement.
