The University of Cape Coast was established in 1962 originally to train graduate professional teachers for Ghana’s second cycle institutions, Teacher Training Colleges, Technical Institutions as well as the Education Ministry, so as to cope with the manpower requirements of the country’s accelerated education program at that time. Since then, however, the mission of the University has been diversified. Today, in addition to the training of graduate professionals in all disciplines taught at the various levels of pre-university education, the University runs various programs ranging from Primary Education, Agricultural and Basic Sciences, to programs in the Arts and Social Sciences, including Population and Family Life Education as well as Geography and Tourism, to meet the demands of national economy.
